Hollywood’s biggest night,  The Oscars!  The stars were out and they were slaying that red carpet.  Unfortunately, Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t wear Shock Effect so I can’t do a whole post about him. (Congratulations Leo!!!)  So we will talk about the looks we CAN try to recreate.  Good thing for us is that lately, the trend is makeup that is great to wear every day, no matter the occasion.  Here are just some of the lovely ladies of the night.

Let’s start out with Sophie Turner.  She has such a gorgeous complexion and glow to her, and her dress was out of this world.  Her makeup was soft and went perfectly, it seems, with her personality.  For her look, use Twilight 03 on your eyes and Naturally Nude 04 with clear lip base on your lips.

Next we move on to Lady Gaga.  Can we just think back for a moment about the Lady Gaga who used to show up dressed in the most over the top ensembles?   She completely went from the “shock” factor to the “wow” factor.  And it. is. Amazing.  To recreate her look, use Naturally Nude 02 on your eyes.  On your lips, use Blushing Bronze 03 with a little bit of clear lip base.

Rachel McAdams matched her makeup to her dress.  To copy her look, use Ebony 03 and an angled liner brush.  Use the brush along the bottom lash line, and then along the top, blend out to create a beautiful emerald smokey eye.

Kerry Washington looked absolutely flawless last night.  She focused on her eyeliner, which you can use Sierra Nevada 06 with an angled liner brush.  Her eye shadow was very soft, and for that you can use Sierra Nevada 02.  She went with a nude lip, so you can use our clear lip base on its own, or with a little Naturally Nude 02.

Saoirse Ronan looked gorgeous!  Her dress was beautiful – it instantly reminded me of a mermaid.  Saoirse went with a smokey eye, and it had more of a matte look.  For this, use our eye primer to make the pigment more matte, along with Debonaire 05 and a little Debonaire 03 under the lower lash line.

Makeup Looks from the Grammy’s

Collections, Naked Cosmetics Pigments, Naked Makeup

The Grammy’s have got to be my favorite awards show of the whole year.  I always look forward to the unexpected musical collaborations and different surprises that pop up.  It’s also the perfect show to break out the edgy makeup.  This year, it seems like the makeup was a little more understated, with the exception of a few.  Either way, you can recreate all of the looks with Naked Cosmetics pigments.  Here are some of the looks from last night.

Selena-Gomez (1)

The smokey eye was an extremely popular look last night.  I loved Selena Gomez’s take on it.  To create her look, start with Sierra Nevada 06 close to the lash line and then blend out with Sierra Nevada 05.   She stuck with a nude lip, and for that you can use Naturally Nude 02 with our clear lip base.

Ciara

Sticking with a more traditional smokey eye was Ciara.  Did she kill it last night or what?  For her look, you can use Debonaire 04 on the inner corner of your eye, Debonaire 05 all over your lid, and blend out with Debonaire 06 in the outer corner.  She also went with a nude lip, so Naturally Nude 02 with clear lip base will work here too.

alessandra-ambrosio (1)

My favorite smokey eye of the night was Alessandra Ambrosio.  She used an emerald color to line her eyes, and it was gorgeous!  To create Alessandra’s look, use Ebony 03 all around your eyes.  For precision, use an angled liner brush.  Use a pencil black eye liner to line your water line for a finished look.  Alessandra wore a pinky-nude lip, and for this you can use Naturally Nude 03 with our clear lip base.

A lot of stars went with a barely-there makeup look.  But as we know, there is still makeup involved in these looks.  Bella Hadid pulled this off flawlessly.  She used the same color on her eyes and lips.  To get her pink-nude lips and eyes, use Naturally Nude 04 on your eyes and mix with our clear lip base on your lips.

lady-gaga (1)

I can’t possibly talk about makeup and the Grammy’s without talking about Lady Gaga.  Her tribute to David Bowie was perfection and her look was amazing.  I can’t promise you can pull off her look, because come on, she’s Lady Gaga, but I can tell you what colors you can use to try.  🙂  On your eyes, you can put Broadway 01 on the inner corner, and then Broadway 05 over the lid.  If you can’t find the gems, you can use some glitter from our Gemstones Collection to complete the look.  For her gorgeous lip color, you can use Blushing Bronze 04 with our clear lip base.

Which look was your favorite?  What was your favorite moment of the night?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Sound off in the comments!

Curing the Winter Blues

Collections, Naked Cosmetics Pigments, Naked Makeup

This is the time of year when a lot of people are getting tired of the snow, the cold, and the dreary days.  I feel like sometimes, my wardrobe or my makeup can help improve my mood.  So I have brought you some collections to brighten up your day.  All swatches were applied dry on the left and wet on the right.

First up we have Desert Sunset.  It doesn’t get much hotter than the desert.  These colors are warm and sunny.  There is a beautiful color range, and the colors look great on any skin tone.  This collection would be great as eye shadow, mixed with some of our Advanced Skin Cream as a bronzer or blush, or mixed with our clear lip base to make a beautiful lip gloss.

Desert Sunset

Next we have Tropical Indulgence.  This collection is so fun!  Imagine you’re sipping on a fruity cocktail on the beach while you give yourself a colorful manicure.  Or you can use TI-01 or TI-02 with our clear lip base for a bright, beautiful lip gloss.

Of course, we do have those people out there who enjoy the snow.  (They do exist, I’ve met them!)  So I didn’t leave you out.  For you, we have the Twilight collection.  All the colors in this collection have a gorgeous silver base, perfect to reflect the snow.  These colors make beautiful eye shadows – dry, wet, or with our eye shadow primer for more of a matte look.

6 (gorgeous!) Shades of Autumn

This past week I took some time to play with our Heavy Metal collection in more depth, and I have come to a realization: this is THE perfect collection to take you through fall (and winter!). Heavy Metal Collection

Each pigment has such variation from dry to wet and when used with eye primer, it is amazing.  For these swatches I did the same color in 3 applications – dry, with primer and wet.

There is this perfect stormy gray (HE-01) This color would be perfect in a smokey eye look, or to brighten up your gray winter days.

HE-01 Chelsea

This light gold (HE-02) reminds me of the beautiful leaves in the beginning of fall. It makes a gorgeous shadow with our eye primer! Use it wet for some extra drama!

HE-02 Chelsea

This color is the epitome of pumpkin spice (HE-03)! And I promise, no extra calories in this one! 😉 Now you can wear your pumpkin spice while drinking your PSL, if that’s your thing.

HE-03 Chelsea

This deep copper is another fun fall color (HE-04). It makes me think of apple cider and cinnamon. Used wet, this could create a really dramatic look.

HE-04 Chelsea

This purple is stunning! (HE-05) It would be really fun to be used as an eye liner, or use with our eye primer for a classic shadow.

HE-05 Chelsea

This blue has to be my favorite blue in our entire line. (HE-06) For some reason this screams “Elsa” at me. It would be an amazing eye liner, incredibly dramatic wet, or a fabulous nail polish! Do you want to build a snowman?
